Au revoir les enfants

Article Abstract:

There are 20 language schools in Brighton, England, which attract 30,000 language students from abroad every summer. These students bring a lot of money to the local area, but they often receive a mixed welcome from local people. Language schools generally attempt to forge positive relations with the local community, especially as most students live with local families. However, some locals tend to be abusive towards language students, especially when facilities such as public transport become overcrowded.

How to get your camera rolling

Article Abstract:

A Webcam will run on any Pentium or Power Macintosh computer, but requires some type of camera which produces a stream of live footage, an interface between the camera and the PC and a link to the Internet, allowing images to go live. It is quite possible to assemble a Webcam from various different parts, rather than buying an expensive complete unit. A standard modem is too slow for a Webcam, and call costs are prohibitively expensive. The costs are still high with ISDN, which is faster.

Easy marks for criminal classes

Article Abstract:

Students in the UK are being increasingly targeted by criminals, and they now seem to be more vulnerable to crime than many other sectors of the population. Students are targeted by muggers in inner-city areas, and burglary of student accommodation has become very common. Students can also be subjected to harassment and assaults.
