BSkyB chief Chisholm makes 6.8m pounds sterling in a year

Article Abstract:

Sam Chisholm, who is to step down as head of BSkyB at the end of 1997, had a total income of 6.8 million pounds sterling in 1996. He made 5 million pounds sterling from exercising 1.8 million phantom share options, and also gained a bonus of 1.3 million pounds sterling in addition to his basic salary of 302,575 pounds sterling. BSkyB has defended this level of remuneration, stating that it was closely linked with the company's performance. It has also emerged that BSkyB is set to enter into a pay-per-view film agreement with Warner Brothers.

An audience with the Sky queen

Article Abstract:

It is very important for television broadcasters to establish a close relationship with their audience, according to British Sky Broadcasting General Manager Elisabeth Murdoch. Care must be taken to have both high-profile programmes and a context within which these can be placed. She has doubled the original programming spend on Sky 1 in 1998, and now plans to focus on longer runs of fewer shows. She feels that Sky has more in common with the BBC than with any other broadcaster in the UK.
