Better ways home if you have no boss

Article Abstract:

It can sometimes be difficult for the self-employed and those who work on a fixed-term contract or through an agency to obtain a mortgage. It is often best to obtain a mortgage from your bank, which usually holds a considerable amount of information about your financial status. In most circumstances, those who are self-employed will have to choose between taking a 'status loan,' which could be for up to 100% loan to value and requires audited accounts to be presented, or making a large deposit and borrowing 75% or less loan to value.

Low inflation turns the tables on endowment mortgages

Article Abstract:

There has been a significant rise in the popularity of repayment mortgages in the UK. Indeed, these mortgages now account for 43% of all mortgages taken out, from only 24% in 1993. In contrast, endowment mortgages account for only 32% of all home loans, from around 80% in the 1980s. Repayment mortgages are usually slightly cheaper than others, and are particularly attractive when inflation is low, when there are advantages to be gained from paying off a mortgage.

Before you go, do your heirs one last favour

Article Abstract:

It is important to give some consideration to appointing a reliable person to act as executor for your estate after your death. Many people choose to appoint a relative. Some relatives welcome having a positive task to do after a bereavement, while others find it a burden at a time of grief. It may be worth considering appointing a bank or a solicitor, although this can be expensive. Furthermore, grieving relatives may find banks difficult to deal with.
