'Sky is good for sport. And we will show it.' (Sam Chisholm, chief executive of BSkyB)(Interview)

Article Abstract:

BSkyB, the UK's leading pay-television concern and the top broadcaster of sporting events, is currently facing great controversy, with many MPs criticising it for being anti-competitive. It could come under greater pressure with the new Broadcasting Bill, which would bring in increased protection for 'listed' sporting events. The concern has actually had a positive impact on the broadcasting of sporting events, according to chief executive Sam Chisholm, pointing out that it has shared the rights to Football League matches.

Pearson's eyeball-counter focuses on a bigger prize

Article Abstract:

Pearson Television, the largest independent television programme producer in Europe, now derives half of its revenues and two-thirds of its profits from overseas, according to Greg Dyke, the head of the company. It has been widely speculated that Dyke is considering setting up a buyout group to purchase Pearson Television from the Pearson group, which is still seeing mixed performance. However, he has refused to comment on this possibility. At present, he is focusing on taking Pearson Television into international markets.
