Broadcasters line up to capture new digital audience

Article Abstract:

It is likely that there will be significant developments in digital television broadcasting in the UK during 1998. BSkyB will launch between 150 and 200 channels in Apr 1998, and is likely to mainly attract analogue customers initially. Around 10 of its digital channels will be devoted to British Interactive Broadcasting, with around 70 being reserved for pay-per-view. CWC plans to make digital cable services available at around the same time. NTL has not released details about launch dates, but plans to offer the Internet to the mass market.

UK: TELEWEST TO RECOMMENCE DIGITAL TV SERVICE

Article Abstract:

Telewest is to start the marketing and induction of its digital TV service again after halting its offer in July 2000. This was due to the fact that Pace Microsystems stopped making set-top boxes because of a shortage of flash memory chips. The setback has meant that Telewest, the UK's number two cable operator, may not be able to attract the expected 500,000 viewers by the end of 2000.
