Burn in Auschwitz, Jews tell Jews: hatred between Orthodox and Reform Jews reduced a Jerusalem kindergarten to ashes

Article Abstract:

Israel is becoming increasingly divided by a bitter conflict between secular and religious Jews. Most recently, this has been seen in the burning of a kindergarten in Mevasseret Zion, Israel, attended by children of Reform Jews. It is believed that the fire was started by Orthodox Jews. In Mevasseret Zion, Orthodox Jews are bitterly opposed to the actions of secular Jews, as well as those belonging to the Reform or Conservative traditions. Experts regard localized incidents as part of a wider battle for Jerusalem, Israel.

Jerusalem for the Jews - one rich American's big idea

Article Abstract:

Irving Moskowitz, a retired doctor from Florida, has become an increasingly influential figure in Israeli politics. He provided financial support for the winning party in the last general election, and has now funded the purchase of two houses for Jewish settlers in the Palestinian neighbourhood of Ras al-Amoud, Jerusalem, Israel. He has openly expressed his determination to make Jerusalem a completely Jewish city, beginning with the Old City and the immediate surrounding area.

We're just not Jewish enough

Article Abstract:

There are around 1 million Russian Jewish immigrants in Israel, out of a population of 6 million. Some three-quarters of these immigrants have arrived in Israel in the 1990s. They face considerable practical difficulties, including uncertainty about their status as Jews. They believe that they are being subjected to unfair discrimination. Their position has become particularly sensitive in the run-up to the forthcoming elections.
