Radiohead's risk pays off with US chart-topper

Article Abstract:

Radiohead have become the first UK pop group to achieve a number one hit in the US since Prodigy in 1997. This comes after a period during which the UK music industry has been examining the reasons for its lack of success in the US. It is clear that groups must be willing to work very hard to establish a fan base in the US.

Eldorado for the BBC as the world pays a fortune to watch its flops

Article Abstract:

BBC television series that have proved unpopular in the UK are attracting many viewers in other countries. BBC Worldwide has seen strong demand for the soap opera 'Eldorado,' for example, which did not run for very long in the UK, and there is also considerable interest in 'Seaforth,' 'Trainer' and 'A Year in Provence.' The success of comedy programmes in other countries is unpredictable, but costume drama and natural history are popular everywhere.
