Buying a bit of la belle France

Article Abstract:

A binding agreement, compromis de vente, with a 10% deposit is needed to buy a property in France. Inheritance law means that the property passes to the owner's children, not their spouse, in the event of death. This can be altered by a solicitor, or notaire. The notaire is a government official who advises vendor and purchaser. English lawyers and surveyors working in France can help vendors understand contracts. Abbey National and the Woolwich Building Society offer documentation in English from their offices in France.

Saddle up without the worry of motor car mayhem

Article Abstract:

The ideal equestrian property is one where there is direct access from the stables to the countryside and where the horses are in view from the house. Where children will be riding, it is particularly important to be able to ride directly out from the property without having to cross a busy road. Attention must be given to security, and it is best not to purchase a property where there are public footpaths running through the land.

How to reduce your heating bills

Article Abstract:

The UK government is undertaking a number of initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of housing. New homes must now be energy rated, and owners of older homes can seek advice from the National Energy Foundation on how to improve energy efficiency and thus reduce fuel bills. Simple energy-saving measures include using energy-saving light bulbs, lagging the hot water tank and fitting thermostatic radiator valves.
