Call for pension compulsion

Article Abstract:

Almost three-quarters of the UK's engineering companies, are asking the Government to change the law making it possible for them to force employees to join occupational pension schemes. These companies, all of which employ 500 or more employees, want the Government to reintroduce obligatory membership to a pension scheme as a condition of employment. If implemented a key reform of the 1980's would be reversed. Many have blamed this previous reform for the GB 15bn pensions mis-selling scandal. The proposal has come as part of the engineering industry's wholesale review of its pension policy. It comes just ahead of the Government's Green Paper concerning pensions reform due to be published in November 1998.

A career in PR, sweetie?

Article Abstract:

The public relations industry has had a rather negative image in the UK over recent years, but public relations is actually a very popular graduate career choice. The role of a public relations consultant is challenging and diverse, with responsibilities including liaising with journalists, attending trade fairs and organizing conferences and events. Graduates seeking a job in corporate public relations will require a broad knowledge of current business issues, while graduates who choose consumer public relations will need to show creative abilities.
