Can morals make a return?

Article Abstract:

There can be many challenges associated with managing an ethical investment fund. It is almost impossible to run a completely ethical fund, and fund managers can also be restricted by the use of positive and negative share selection criteria. The most significant issue is the extent to which ethical selection approaches distort the range of possible share holdings in a fund when compared with a model portfolio based on the UK stock market. Ethical funds are inevitably more volatile than mainstream UK equity funds.

Try these books for size

Article Abstract:

There are many different guides to personal financial planning in the UK. A good basic guide is Jonquil Lowe's 'Be Your Own Financial Adviser,' which focuses on financial planning in a family context and contains some practical tools for planning in areas such as insurance and pensions. A more analytical, investment-orientated approach is taken in Debbie Harrison's 'Personal Financial Planner.' More specialist books include Joanna Slaughter's 'Guide to Investment Trusts and Unit Trusts.'

More to bonds than high income

Article Abstract:

Corporate-bond personal equity plans (PEPs) have proved extremely popular in the UK, having attracted investment of more than 3.3 billion pounds sterling since they were introduced in 1995. However, it is important to take a range of factors into account before choosing one of these products, as their performance can vary considerably. Potential investors should compare charges and performance, and should be aware that there is a risk that the company issuing the bond may fail.
