Carving a brighter future in Mozambique

Article Abstract:

Mining concern Billiton is linking with a South African development corporation and Mitsubishi of Japan to invest $1.3 billion in constructing an aluminium smelter on a site 11 miles west of Maputo, Mozambique. This facility is set to produce at least 250,000 tons of aluminium a year, 1% of total world production. The project could mark the beginning of a substantial rise in international investment in Mozambique, which is already beginning to enjoy economic expansion.
