Article Abstract:

Several prominent South African figures are identified as having committed human rights abuses under the apartheid system in the report by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Winnie Mandela denies accusations that she used the Mandela United Football Club to terrorise Soweto through murders, abductions and assaults. Inkatha Freedom Party founder Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi is alleged to have conducted a civil war against African National Congress supporters, while PW Botha is accused of presiding over the detention without trial and deaths of thousands of blacks.

ANC to march on a centre of apartheid intrigue

Article Abstract:

The African National Congress plans to cross the unmarked international border near King William's Town in the Eastern Cape. It plans to depose Brigadier Oupa Gqozo. The Brigadier's own political party, the African Democratic Movement (ADM), was thought to cause anti-ANC disruption in Ciskei and Trankei. The security forces anti-ANC strategy aimed to stop the ANC organising in Ciskei and to build their own secret force in Transkei.

Ciskei leader bends to pressure for poll

Article Abstract:

Military leader of Ciskei Brigadier Oupa Gqozo apologised to clergymen for the massacre of 28 ANC supporters who demonstrated against him. He did not agree to a referendum but wants longer-term elections. ANC President Nelson Mandela demanded that Brigadier Gqozo should be removed from office. The Brigadier continued the accusations and counter-accusations for responsibility for the slaughter.
