Article Abstract:
It is generally agreed that Turner was the greatest ever British painter but in his later years he attempted to produce more grand paintings as a monument to his genius and these are considered to be vastly inferior to his work in his original style. This original style was great painting of insubstantial things like light, atmosphere, mists, vapors, sea-spray and the like. His great genius was his ability to produce paintings of nothing, just a scene dissolving in various colourful shades. Only when his ambition increased did his genius collapse.

Art of Africa: the show of a lifetime
Article Abstract:
The art of a considerable number of civilizations is featured in the 'Africa: the Art of a Continent' exhibition currently being held at the Royal Academy. It covers 800 objects, showing that African art is of an extremely high standard. Some of the exhibits will prompt traditional views on the development of African art to be reviewed.

Painter and teacher Elizabeth Arnold was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1964. She studied art at Middlesex Polytechnic, gaining her BA in Painting, and then at Goldsmiths' College, gaining an MA in 1994.
