Charlie appears, and history vanishes

Article Abstract:

Evelyn Baker's job as assistant principal archaeology officer with Bedfordshire County Council, England, includes trying to prevent criminals from stealing artefacts from archaeological sites. In 1990 the site of an ancient Roman villa was excavated when Anglian Water was laying a new sewage pipe. Overnight small holes appeared, as left by a metal detector. The law grants ownership of archaeological artefacts to the owner of the land where they are found, unless they are made of gold or silver. Although a culprit was caught, he was not prosecuted as the chance of success was under 50%.

Lad tidings in store

Article Abstract:

Many men seem to find buying Christmas presents extremely difficult. They often have only a few presents to buy, but lack ideas and get very confused by the range of goods available. Some think that the recipient of a gift is bound to like it if it was very expensive, so simply buy the most expensive thing they can afford. This is not necessarily the case. Some observers feel that men are not necessarily poor at shopping, but simply lack the practice that women have.
