Class size - does it really matter?
Article Abstract:
Recent studies indicate that parents, teachers and headteachers are all very concerned about rising class sizes. However, the government believes that research evidence indicates that large classes do not lead to lower standards. Many of the UK's leading economic competitors have introduced legislation on maximum class sizes, and observers now believe that class size is important for the youngest children, although there is no clear indication about its impact on older children.

Let's have a truly national curriculum
Article Abstract:
There is a strong argument in favour of obliging the UK's public and other independent schools to follow the national curriculum. It is vital that all children have access to a curriculum that is wide and varied enough to allow them to become self-determined and socially responsive. If the national curriculum fulfills this role for the 93% of children educated in state schools, then it should do so for those educated in the independent sector.
