Clever Trevor

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party has changed considerably over recent years, and is now much closer to the views of The Sun newspaper, according to Trevor Kavanagh, the newspaper's political editor. He was recently named Journalist of the Year in the British Press Awards for a series of exclusive stories. The newspaper aims to focus its readers' political views, rather than telling them directly what to think, but Kavanagh has succeeded in making readers interested in issues which would otherwise have remained outside their sphere of knowledge.

Keeping taking The Tablet

Article Abstract:

It is important to dispel the myth that the Catholic Church is an exclusive club of people who have access to the truth, according to John Wilkins, editor of The Tablet, a Catholic weekly newspaper. This newspaper has experienced a dramatic revival since Wilkins became editor, and its circulation recently exceeded 20,000. It is read by influential people in all areas of UK society, and is highly respected for the way in which it mixes interpretation of international events with reports about the international church.

The battles of Hastings

Article Abstract:

There must be some privileges attached to the post of editor, according to London Evening Standard editor Max Hastings. He feels that he should not have to apologize for the fact that he never remains in London, England, at weekends. He accepts that the newspaper's core readership is probably not very interested in rural issues, but felt that the countryside march in London on Mar 1, 1998, should be covered in some detail. He faces many challenges as demographic changes take place within the newspaper's readership.
