Article Abstract:

Soldier Fred Allen studied at Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, before being commissioned into the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1967. He was involved in fighting terrorism during the 1970s and most of the 1980s. He was seconded to Hong Kong and Brunei to serve with the Gurkha Rifles in 1974, and on his return commanded a company in the Royal Irish Rangers until 1977. He was appointed the first Regimental Colonel of the Royal Irish Regiment in 1992.

Article Abstract:

Army officer Michael Carver was born in Bletchingley, England, in 1915. He studied at Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Royal Tank Corps in 1935. He fought in the Western Desert during the second world war. He was appointed to Field Marshal Montgomery's staff at SHAPE in 1952.

Soldier Patrick Porteous was born in Abottabad, India, in 1918. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1937. He gained the Victoria Cross for an attack on a German gun battery in Aug 1942.
