Confessions of writers brought to book

Article Abstract:

'The Pleasure of Reading' compiled by Lady Antonia Fraser to celebrate WH Smith's 200th anniversary describes the favourite books, now and in childhood, of famous authors. The most popular children's books were 'Winnie the Pooh', 'Jane Eyre', 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', 'Treasure Island' and 'Just William.' Adult classics have a varied reception. Some feel reading choice indicates the reader's character. John Mortimer objects to the proliferation of children's books as he feels good children's books are good for any age.

It may win prizes, but is it art or orifice?

Article Abstract:

The Turner Prize has always been associated with controversy, as it aims to promote public discussion about modern art. In 1995, controversy seems to have become almost essential for artistic success. The shortlisted entries include an artist who filmed her internal organs using a micro-camera and an installation artist who pickles sheep and sharks in formaldehyde. Those who defend the prize believe that it is important to continually challenge conventions.
