Confusion as UK puts troops on war zone stand-by

Article Abstract:

Military and diplomatic sources in the UK indicate that the decision to place 4,000 marines and paratroopers on standby to enter Afghanistan is in alignment with Prime Minister Tony Blair's wish to show that the UK is playing a leading role in the military campaign in Afghanistan. However, there is some confusion about the exact nature of the work to be undertaken by these troops.

Americans 'duped' into attack on convoy

Article Abstract:

An attack by US Air Force AC-130 gunships and Navy jets on a convoy travelling from Paktia, Afghanistan, to Kabul, Afghanistan, for the inauguration of the new interim government left up to 60 people dead and 40 injured. It is alleged that Paktia warlord Pacha Khan supplied information to the Americans because he wished to target members of the Kochi clan.

Undercover teams to close pincer on Taliban

Article Abstract:

The role of undercover troops in Allied military action against Afghanistan's Taliban regime is discussed. Soldiers from the British SAS and the US Delta Force are working in northern Afghanistan with the Northern Alliance on military tactics, while also playing a political and military role around Kandahar, in the south of the country.
