Dangerous days on the cyberfrontier

Article Abstract:

The Internet has brought to the fore some US companies which are able to thrive and offer a reliable, competitive service, even if they are relatively small. In contrast, it has also highlighted the poor management of other companies. This has been the case with America Online, the largest Internet access provider in the world. This company invested heavily to increase its subscriber base, and was then unable to meet its service commitments. It has failed to make a satisfactory response to the concerns expressed by its customers.

Memo to government: our enterprise culture is thriving

Article Abstract:

A study to be launched shortly is likely to indicate that the UK's enterprise culture compares poorly with the situation in the US. However, it is important to remember that entrepreneurship is actually firmly established in the UK, having been encouraged by successive chancellors of the exchequer since the late 1970s. The enterprise culture is spreading, and social entrepreneurship will be as important as business entrepreneurship in the early years of the 21st century.

Powerful beyond words

Article Abstract:

Photojournalism makes a unique contribution to recording world history. It is able to capture decisive moments, holding on to them for ever, and in this way differs from television news coverage, which is unlikely to be used as a reference tool in the future. Photojournalism conveys elements of a particular story which cannot be expressed in words, and speaks directly to people's emotions, rather than to their intellect.
