Deadly legacy of Hiroshima in US

Article Abstract:

People living around the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in eastern Washington state believe that there is a clear link between emissions of radioactive iodine from the plant and the very high levels of thyroid disease in the area. However, research commissioned by the federal Center for Disease Controls and Prevention has concluded that there is no connection between increased exposure to radioactive iodine and raised incidence of thyroid-related diseases. Local people fear that the federal monitoring programme designed to assess the health impacts of emissions from the plant will now be abandoned.
