Designs for living

Article Abstract:

There appears to be growing interest in contemporary architecture, according to Doris Lockhart-Saatchi, former wife of advertising executive Charles Saatchi. She is now focusing on acquiring architectural models, rather than contemporary art, and will use her home in Mayfair, London, England, as a gallery dedicated to selling architectural works. She is also organizing an auction of architectural models at the Saatchi Gallery in London, England. This has attracted donations of models by architects including Hopkins and Foster.

Taking the shirt off their backs

Article Abstract:

There is growing demand in the UK for football memorabilia, especially shirts worn by key players in significant matches. However, collectors are only interesting in memorabilia from winning teams, so there will be no demand for the shirts worn by the losing England team in their recent Euro 96 semi-final match against Germany. The growing demand for football memorabilia has sparked off a problem with fakes, particularly as some teams now wear the same shirts as those sold in their souvenir shops.

Tribal values

Article Abstract:

Tribal art is becoming increasingly popular among collectors. Objects that have actually been used in tribal rituals, such as fertility rites, are rated particularly highly. The most rapidly rising prices are being seen for Australian aboriginal art. Polynesian prices remain high, and prices for South African, especially Zulu, and native American art are rising. Many Belgian and French collectors are coming to the UK to purchase former colonial tribal pieces.
