EU: CBI PLEA OVER PENSION SCHEMES

Article Abstract:

European Union (EU) legislators were urged on 12 March 2000 by the UK Confederation of British Industry (CBI) to submit recommendations covering portable supplementary pensions. The CBI believes that job creation and productivity growth across the EU could be attained at national, individual and company level. The CBI's pensions idea would eradicate one of the main barriers hindering labour mobility in Europe.

UK: SUPPORT FOR EURO ENTRY AT HIGHER RATE

Article Abstract:

In a sign that manufacturers in the UK are surviving the strong pound better than expected, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) is expected to tell the UK government that membership of the single currency could take place at a higher exchange rate then previously thought. The CBI previously stated that a sustainable rate would be one euro to DM 2.65-DM 2.70, but this could now be raised to DM 2.80.
