Eleanor Norris Keaton

Article Abstract:

Eleanor Norris Keaton enjoyed a 26-year happy marriage to silent movie star Buster Keaton, despite his alcoholism and the large age gap. Eleanor had been a dancer at MGM studios where Keaton acted as a gag man following the demise of silent films. Eleanor married Keaton in 1940 when he was 44 and she was 21. She continued to work as a dancer and performed in films such as 'Bathing Beauty.' Keaton and his wife both starred in vaudeville with the Cirque Medrano in Paris, France, after the second world war. Eleanor died on October 20 1998.

Mel Torme

Article Abstract:

Singer, songwriter, actor, composer, pianist, drummer and arranger Mel Torme began performing at an early age. He was a well-known child actor on radio, and also sang and played the drums. He joined the Chico Marx band after leaving high school in 1942, and made his screen debut in 'Higher and Higher' in 1943. He became lead-singer and arranger with the Schoolkids. His best film was Charles Walters's musical 'Good News,' released in 1947.

Gwen Verdon

Article Abstract:

Dancer and actress Gwen Verdon was born in Culver City, CA, in 1925. She joined a Hollywood repertory company at the age of 15. She later joined dance director Jack Cole's group and made her debut in musical comedy in 'Bonanza Bound' in 1947.
