Emerging markets no longer offer a quick buck

Article Abstract:

Emerging markets still offer exciting prospects for potential investors. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find really attractive bargains in emerging markets. There is no longer a guarantee of making a rapid profit, and prices are being driven up by increasing competition. There has been particular interest recently in former Communist bloc countries, where there has been a very strong rise in direct investment by foreign institutions.

No wonder some commentators refer to booming Ireland as Europe's Tiger economy

Article Abstract:

The economy of Ireland has enjoyed rapid growth over recent years. It is set to expand by at least 6% in 1997, while inflation is no higher than in the UK. Growth has been particularly boosted by overseas investment, with investors being attracted by low wage costs. The Irish Stock Exchange has expanded in line with the country's economy, with total market capitalization having expanded 12-fold since 1987 to around 25 billion Irish punts.

There may be trouble ahead ...

Article Abstract:

Many companies now offer a salary package made up of a number of different elements, and these must all be taken into account when deciding whether to take up a job with a different employer. Company cars are no longer as financially attractive as they once were, and this is also the case with mortgage subsidies and season ticket loans. It is particularly important to look in detail at the terms of any occupational pension scheme.
