German on four charges in bank fraud inquiry

Article Abstract:

An international banking fraud investigation has led to the arrest of 10 people, nine of whom have been released on bail while further investigations are undertaken. Charges have been brought against German national Gerhard Werner Martens, who is accused of dishonestly obtaining property to the value of $622,500, and further charges are expected to follow. It is believed that a number of people, mainly Germans, were persuaded to make investments in companies registered in the US, although the fraud has now been traced to the quiet British seaside town of Torquay.

Return of the grouse on the Welsh hills of Pale Moor

Article Abstract:

Conservationists and supporters of field sports are currently working together to bring about the return of the red grouse across a large area of heather moorland in Wales. The Welsh Grouse Project is centred around Pale Moor in Gwynedd, where there are currently no grouse. It is believed that allowing the returning grouse to be shot for sport will bring in money which will in turn assist conservation work.
