First steps on the property ladder

Article Abstract:

Building societies and banks are now making available a very wide range of mortgage products. However, basic conditions relating to obtaining a mortgage, especially salary levels, remain largely unchanged. Once an agreement has been reached to obtain a mortgage, the borrower must decide between a repayment mortgage, an endowment, and a mortgage linked to a Personal Equity Plan or a pension plan. It is worth seeking out special deals. These include fixed-rate mortgages, where the rate will not change for a specified number of years.

School fees: plan early and avoid the pain

Article Abstract:

Parents who wish to educate their children privately or who have children who may study at university should be aware that they will face a significant financial burden. Some parents are able to find employment that will pay enough to allow them to meet the costs of educating their children, while others may need some type of prior savings or investment or may be forced to borrow money. It is common for private schools to allow parents to make lump sum payments in advance to obtain a discount on subsequent fees.
