Article Abstract:

A tribunal headed by Sir Ronald Waterhouse QC is investigating widespread child abuse at children's homes in Wales, England, in the 1970s and 1980s. The tribunal has held 200 full days of hearings and taken evidence from more than 300 people. Many of the allegations relate to the Bryn Estyn children's home in Wrexham, Wales, which has now shut down. However, child abuse could have taken place at a further 40 children's homes in North Wales. It is likely that up to 20 people who were abused as children at these homes have subsequently committed suicide.
