Four historic weeks in British racial history

Article Abstract:

There have been a number of developments recently which could make a significant difference to the politics of race in the UK. The Daily Mail gave a positive message to black people by publishing the names of the men alleged to have murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence, while professor Patricia J. Williams became the first black person to deliver the Reith lectures. There has been publicity surrounding demands for the return of the Benin Bronzes, and the wreck of HMS London, which went aground in 1796 and was believed to be carrying black slaves, has been discovered.

Artful view of history

Article Abstract:

The Courtauld Institute in London, England, offers a range of postgraduate art history courses. Students may begin with a postgraduate diploma, and can then progress to an MA if they wish. There is a wide range of course options, and MA students can also choose to study the history of architecture or the history of dress. Postgraduate art history courses are also offered at the University of East Anglia's school of world art studies and museology. Here, postgraduate students practice the traditional disciplines, but also become involved in world art studies.

History of the common cannibal

Article Abstract:

There have been outbreaks of cannibalism for hundreds of years. Human flesh was sold between the years 695-700 in England and Ireland and in the 10th century in China. Many parts of the human body were used in medical treatments in the 18th century. There are examples of eating humans for survival in extreme circumstances in the 20th century as when a plane crashed in the Andes in 1972. A group decision to face this has a different psychological effect than a lone experience.
