There are very close diplomatic links between the French and German governments, but the ordinary people of France and Germany do not really share the same views and ideals. They generally have a good impression of each other, but their views are characterized by generalizations and prejudices. This has not really mattered in the past, but could become important as political relations between the two countries seem to be entering a less stable phase.
