From nought to 40 in 11 years

Article Abstract:

Donald Fagen made seven records, verging on jazz, with sophisticated lyrics, for Walter Becker in the 1970s. Steely Dan broke up and Fagen released 'The Nightfly' in 1982, then nothing until 1993. He waited for the different energy needed to write something new. Walter Becker re-united with him as producer and bass player after 10 years of drugs. Steely Dan plan to tour the US in Aug 1993. Fagen is fussy about recorded sound. His voice has a harmonic quality which freaks out the microphone.

It's the bin end of the week and Steely Dan are acting oddly. They're dying for a chinwag

Article Abstract:

The band Steely Dan split up in 1980, but undertook reunion performances in 1993 and 1994 and has recently made a live recording, 'Alive in America.' Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, who founded the band in the early 1970s, have always been reluctant to give interviews, but have been persuaded to hold a week of interviews. They have talked about the enjoyment they derived from the reunion performances and about plans for a completely new studio album.
