G7 ministers mark IMF for shake-up

Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to be reorganised, although there is still little agreement among finance ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) industrial countries about how this should be done. The issue has been highlighted by the debate over dealing with the debt crisis in Mexico, and will be the focal point of discussions at the 1995 G7 summit, to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There are likely to be particularly strong disagreements over any plans for an additional supply of funding to the IMF.

Article Abstract:

The FBI is investigating claims by William Youngworth, an antiques dealer facing charges of drugs and weapons possession, that he knows the whereabouts of 12 masterpieces stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, MA, in Mar 1990. In return for revealing details, he is seeking to have all charges against him dropped and the release of Myles Connor, a colleague, from prison. The FBI is proceeding with caution, as Youngworth has a history of forgery and making false claims.

Strange days when the guru came to town

Article Abstract:

The trial of two British members of the cult of Bhagwan Stree Rajneesh has revived painful memories in Oregon about the late cult leader's attempts to gain political control in Waco county in 1981-1985. The cult established a large settlement in the Oregon desert, where several thousand disciples lived. Nearby towns are now trying hard to return to normal life, putting behind them the tensions of that era.
