Greens seek a way out of the political wilderness

Article Abstract:

The unexpected re-unification of Germany created a feeling of patriotism which contrasted with the Green Party's rejection of nationalism. Over half the Green Party's supporters abandoned them in 1990. They did not achieve parliamentary representation. Realists wished to become more professional to form a coalition with the Social Democrats and fundamentalists wanted to remain radical. Petra Kelly, one of the founders, was found dead on Oct 19, 1992.
