Happy children cut down in a minute

Article Abstract:

Thomas Hamilton was heavily armed when he entered Dunblane primary school on Mar 13, 1996, according to witnesses at an inquiry into the incident, in which he fired a total of 105 shots. He had obviously made extensive preparations, and may even have gone as far as trying to cut off the school's telephone system. The loaded and reloaded his guns several times, firing continuously and taking up three different positions. He also fired shots at other areas of the school.

Safety strategy with no margin for error

Article Abstract:

Gun ownership is set to enter a new era in the UK as the government takes a much stricter line on this issue in response to the Dunblane massacre. There will be extensive checks on people applying to own any firearm, greater police powers and training for dealing with firearms and new security measures for all gun clubs. The UK's gun laws will now be among the strictest in the world, and must more wide-reaching than those of other European countries.

Crofters' bid for estate may set precedent

Article Abstract:

The Assynt Crofters Trust wishes to buy the North Lochinver Estate in western Sutherland, Scotland, to avoid past problems of land ownership. The European Community Common Agriculture Policy does not appreciate crofters' needs. The Assynt community has raised money locally and internationally.
