Here, where the world is quiet

Article Abstract:

The pressures of modern life make it increasingly important for people to have places to go where they can focus on finding solace and regaining a spiritual dimension to their existence. For some, this would be a church, temple or mosque, while others may prefer a meditation centre. These buildings do not need to be attractive in order to serve their purpose, but a high quality building does tend to raise the profile of the community which uses it. Against this background, it is now time to look at the future of religious architecture in the UK.

Let's have a warm round of applause

Article Abstract:

The BBC's newly restored Radio Theatre, at Broadcasting House in London, originally opened in 1932. It was never really used very much as concert hall, as had been originally intended, as it had a number of disadvantages. However, it will now receive live audiences once more, after a break of many years. It has been restored along very much the same lines as its original decor, and will become a key entertainment venue.

Chairs are not always for sitting on

Article Abstract:

Artists Ben Langlands and Nikki Bell have become well known for a strong interest in architecture. This has led them to look closely at the inner logic of high profile buildings. They have produced pictures which show these buildings with their outer layers removed, thus encouraging people to look at them in new ways. The pictures contain no distracting colour or texture, and show each building as a perfect abstract.
