Herman D. Koppel
Article Abstract:
Composer, pianist and teacher Herman Koppel was admitted to the Royal Danish Conservatory at the age of 17. He met Carl Nielsen in 1925, and acted as his assistant until the second world war. He composed extensively for the piano, with his works including four concertos, some miniatures and several sets of variations. He also composed a cycle of seven impressive symphonies, along with several other orchestral works. He took little interest in his own music, and did not try to promote it.

Buxton Orr
Article Abstract:
Composer Buxton Orr studied composition with Benjamin Frankel between 1952 and 1955. He first came to public attention with the scores to several Boris Karloff and other horror films. The first of his serious works to be widely recognized was 'The Wager,' a one-act opera completed in 1961. He began working at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1965, and only started composing full-time in 1990. He was extremely committed to teaching.

Herman Berlinski
Article Abstract:
Composer, pianist and organist Herman Berlinski was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1910. He graduated from the Leipzig Conservatory in 1932, having already gained a strong reputation as a pianist. He studied composition in Paris, France, and served with the Foreign Legion. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1947.
