He's writing to let us know he's there

Article Abstract:

Forty thousand pounds sterling were spent by the council of Brighton, UK on removing graffiti from its own buildings alone and may more thousands on removal elsewhere. When they are caught the vandals are fined or given community service sentences but this does little to deter them. They often work as teams as there is rivalry between graffiti gangs who will overwrite the work of other groups. They use an alias or tag on their work and usually photograph it. There are around 30 graffiti artists in Brighton and Hove and thousands over the country. They say it is merely an ego statement.

A blow, but not fatal

Article Abstract:

The loss of 'embouchure,' the shaping of the lips on the mouthpiece, can be a very serious blow to a brass musician, according to John Cobb, who began his career in music as a trombonist but had to give up playing professionally when he began to experience this problem. He later worked as personnel manager with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, from which he has recently retired. He plays to play the trombone in his retirement, and hopes to join a big swing band.
