High time for private health schemes

Article Abstract:

Private medical and health insurance are set to become increasingly important in the UK as the government seeks to make people more responsible for looking after themselves. In 1996, almost 6.5 million people paid out around 1.8 billion pounds sterling for private medical insurance, and sales of medical insurance are expected to rise by 5% a year. There is also a growing need for health insurance, as state benefits are low and assistance with mortgage interest payments is only available after six months. It can be very difficult to make comparisons between companies offering health and medical insurance.

Comparing notes on going private

Article Abstract:

The introduction of standardized details will make it easier for private medical insurance policies available in the UK to be directly compared. There are currently just over 6 million people with private medical insurance policies, with premiums at almost 2 billion pounds sterling a year. Most of those who hold a policy do so as part of their employment package. Those planning to purchase a private medical insurance policy should consult an independent financial adviser. A low-cost policy may be suitable, as long as the restrictions are acceptable.

Health care that doesn't leave you waiting

Article Abstract:

There are currently just over 6 million people in the UK with private medical insurance, from 5.2 million in 1986, according to the Association of British Insurers. Providers of private medical insurance have benefited from the fact that many people are losing confidence in the National Health Service. Most private medical insurance policies are sold as part of an employment package. There are more than 25 providers of this form of insurance, selling around 450 different plans.
