Holy warriors seek deadly miracles

Article Abstract:

Fierce conflict has developed between Muslims and Christians on the Indonesian island of Ambon. Many Muslims on the island are now calling for an Islamic jihad, while Christians are talking of a crusade. Christians are in the majority in the town of Ambon, but they allege that they are not being permitted to exert political power and that they suffer discrimination at the hands of the central government and the civil service. The Muslims feel that the Christians are trying to drive them out.

Queen caught in Malaysia chaos

Article Abstract:

Political protests have marred an official visit by the Queen to Malaysia. Protestors emphasize that they are not opposed to the Queen in any way, but they feel that her visit is being used by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, whom they do oppose. Riot police have taken very firm action against protestors, who do not appear to have been involved in any illegal acts, such as starting fires or looting shops. A number of people are being held under the Internal Security Act.
