Homing in on scholastic success

Article Abstract:

It has become very common in the UK for parents to be prepared to pay a very high price for a house within the catchment area of a school with a good reputation. In many cases, houses in these areas will sell for a lot more than they would if they were located elsewhere. For families able to afford these prices, this is still a cheaper option than paying for their children to be educated privately. There are now many campaigns across the UK for new high quality secondary schools to be established, and this could also have an impact on house prices.

Pests can prove lethal - for your finances

Article Abstract:

It can prove expensive and time-consuming to deal with household pests such as mice and cockroaches. Some can be extremely determined, and may be resistant to conventional ways of eliminating them. It is unlikely that the local authority will be able to offer much assistance, and it may be necessary to pay professional pest controllers to deal with the problem. However, some councils may put pressure on private householders or landlords if local residents complain.

Move on up; you just might get the house you wanted

Article Abstract:

Buying the flat above or below your own can prove a wiser decision than moving to a completely new property. It may be necessary to undertake a considerable amount of building work if you intended to unite the two flats, but in the longer term very useful living space will be gained. It can sometimes be difficult to persuade mortgage lenders and utilities that you are really intending to convert two flats into one.
