A judicial inquiry has been launched into the events surrounding the death of 43 football fans at Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. The tragedy arose as a result of large numbers of people surging into the stadium from the street.

Considerable controversy surrounds the week-long United Nations conference on racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia taking place in Durban, South Africa. There is no set agenda or draft final declaration, and former colonial powers are unwilling to consider an apology for slavery.

Downfall of the preacher who took Paul Simon's conscience for a ride

Article Abstract:

Former priest Allan Boesak has been found guilty by a court in Cape Town, South Africa, of stealing more than 100,000 pounds sterling from the charity Foundation for Peace and Justice. This charity, designed to assist child victims of apartheid, was established with the assistance of pop singer Paul Simon, who donated R682,000 to the charity after his 1987 'Graceland' tour. Boesak became attracted to high living, and used money from the charity to pay for luxuries for his family.
