How low should we go?

Article Abstract:

Many newspapers are reporting the evidence being given in the trial of Rosemary West, who is accused of sexual abuse and murder of girls and young women, in great detail. Some observers feel that this detail is important for lawyers and the police, but it is not really necessary to report it to the general public. Others point out that it is significant because it highlights how apparently ordinary people can stoop to acts of great cruelty, and claim that people are not obliged to read the details if they do not wish to do so. Journalists are finding it very difficult to strike the right balance when reporting this trial.

Rosemary West tells of Fred and sex

Article Abstract:

Rosemary West, who is on trial accused of murdering 10 girls and young women, has been telling the court of her traumatic childhood experiences. She was raped twice at the age of 15, and was later abandoned by her mother. This made her more susceptible to the charms of Frederick West, who promised to care for her. After they married, he used emotional blackmail to force her to have sex with other men.
