How the young have come to support the bombing of Iraq

Article Abstract:

Support among Britons for the bombing of Iraq is strongest among those aged between 18 and 25. This seems to be a reflection of the fact that most newspapers and television stations trivialize domestic politics and give little attention to developments in other countries. This means that many young people have little concern for the fate of countries with which they cannot readily identify. Prime Minister Tony Blair knows that most ordinary people are not aware of the origins of the conflict in the Middle East, and has presented Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein in a very negative light.

Victory is possible - but not by bombing the Afghans 'back into the Stone Age.'

Article Abstract:

It is vital that US military commanders are given time to prepare if the administration decides to go ahead with a military campaign in Afghanistan in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. The aim of any US Special Forces operation must be clearly defined, as this will need to be a long-term campaign.

Learning to live with the future

Article Abstract:

The terrorist attacks in the US rise significant long-term issues about how governments can protect people from terrorist attacks. A government cannot act as an effective deterrent against a terrorist group, but deterrence can still be significant against rogue countries willing to support terrorists.
