If Quebec splits, the tremors will be global

Article Abstract:

It seems increasingly likely that the forthcoming vote in Quebec will be in favour of independence from the rest of Canada. If this is the case, there will be wide-reaching international repercussions. Canada would lose a quarter of its population, and may face serious economic consequences. There would be considerable tension between Canada and an independent Quebec. If the vote does not go in favour of independence, there will still be many difficulties to be overcome in relations between Quebec and the rest of Canada.
