In the culture of counselling, we all risk becoming victims

Article Abstract:

There are dangers arising from exalting victimhood, and having people defined in terms of what has occurred to them, rather than in terms of their actions. Victims were once treated badly, as was the case of Holocaust survivors, and it is an improvement that there is no longer a stigma attached to victimhood. Counseling is urged whenever a disaster occurs, though the people involved may have little in common. There is a need to recognise that adversity is part of life and to avoid defining people in terms of what has occurred to them.

Wanted: an enterprise culture for the Nineties

Article Abstract:

The enterprise culture which developed in the UK in the 1980s is now becoming discredited, especially in the light of a number of prominent business scandals. It is now clear that there were serious flaws in the enterprise culture, and ordinary people are suffering as a result, with many firms closing down and others drastically reducing in size. It is now time to adopt a less exclusive approach to business, one which will encourage the wealth creators of the future.
