The Government's infatuation with the private sector is foolish

Article Abstract:

The UK government must move away from the view that the private sector is the best means of delivering public services. It would be wrong to allow faith in the private sector to push aside a viable vision for developing and improving public services.

Why can't the British be more like the French?

Article Abstract:

The standard of public services in the UK has declined dramatically since former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1979. The Labour government faces significant challenges as it seeks to revive standards in public services, particularly as many middle-class people are now moving towards private-sector provision. It would be worth looking to the example of France, where ordinary people are prepared to pay taxes that ensure a high standard of public services. The UK government must now consider raising taxes to pay for the services ordinary people need in areas such as housing and health care.

Is Mr Blair foolish enough to try to stop me running for mayor of London?

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party must be aware that any system for selecting its candidate for Mayor of London, England, that contains mechanisms to prevent a particular candidate from seeking office is both morally and procedurally wrong. Excluding a candidate for political reasons, claiming that the candidate did not support the official Labour line, would cause controversy within the party in London. Prime Minister Tony Blair is too wise a politician to rig a selection or risk losing a large proportion of the Greater London Labour party membership.
