Is there life after day surgery?

Article Abstract:

Having day surgery for a condition such as a hernia or varicose veins can suit some patients very well. They do not have to spend any longer in hospital than necessary, and are able to return quickly to family life. However, some find that they are unable to rest properly at home, and in fact take longer to recover than they would have done if they had spent some time in hospital. It is vital that day surgery patients are treated on a dedicated day unit, are given written information about the operation in advance and a telephone number to contact if problems occur.

Cats with rubber teeth prove smoking kills

Article Abstract:

Reductions in blood pressure and smoking in particular population groups are not necessarily associated with a corresponding fall in heart attacks, according to the WHO Monica Project, which covered 150,000 people in 21 countries. However, this does not mean that smoking is not a risk factor for heart disease. In fact, there is still a lot to learn about what causes heart disease, and there could be contributory factors of which medical experts are still unaware.

Action and Information on Sugars and Slimmer magazine have established a campaign to get supermarkets to have at least half their check-outs without displays of sweets.
