Islamic revolution that has failed to deliver

Article Abstract:

In 1993 about 45.5% of the 60 million Iranians are under 14 and new voters have never experienced the previous regime. The new generation was reared on Islamic revolution. Iran is opposed to Western influence and to Israel and the US. People's lives have not altered much although the standard of living has fallen as the currency collapsed from 70 rials to the US dollar in 1978 to 1,675 rials to the dollar in 1993. Wages are low and there is no entertainment. Freedom of expression is disapproved of if it threatens the regime.

The hunt for Red Mercury

Article Abstract:

Red Mercury, said to be a component for detonating Soviet nuclear warheads and missile-guidance systems, has been offered for sale across Europe since 1990 for $500,000 or 290,000 pounds sterling a kilo. Arrests have produced plutonium, uranium, metallic mercury and scandium samples. This could be an international fraud or 'sting' perpetrated by intelligence agencies to win funds. Mr Marco Affatigato, a former Italian neo-fascist living in Valence, France, claims to have sold to Saudi Arabia.
