Island Records founder to float new ventures

Article Abstract:

Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, now aims to become a direct competitor with Polygram, which purchased Island Records in 1989 for $300 million. He will do this through Jamaican record label Blue Mountain Music, which is currently operating in relative obscurity. This label will give priority to reggae. Blackwell has severed links with Polygram because he felt that being part of a very large organization was having a negative impact on his creative spirit.

An empty seat, some clothes and a photo album were all that remained of Flight 592

Article Abstract:

No survivors and no bodies have yet been discovered following the crash of a DC-9 passenger jet operated by cut-price airline ValuJet near Miami airport. Extensive security measures have been taken at the site, and this has led some observers to speculate that the authorities may fear that the crash was the result of terrorist action. However, officials have emphasised that the measures were taken simply because of a risk of fuel explosion.

'You've got to see this place, it's unreal.' (New Yorker Muriel Martin prefers life in Haiti)

Article Abstract:

Muriel Martin is one of several hundred Americans who have lived in Haiti for many years, having been very attracted to it on first sight. She and her friends are determined to remain there, despite the recent withdrawal of US intervention forces. They have lived through the island's many political problems, and still prefer life there to the life which they could lead in the US.
