It could never happen again

Article Abstract:

Hitler became Chancellor legally as he led the National Socialist Party when it was the strongest in parliament. During the Great Depression of 1929-32 the gross national product fell by 35%. The economic problems of 1993 seem trifling in comparison. People accept the economic situation. Skinheads who attack foreigners are not like Nazis - they have no ideology, leader or organisation. Unemployed people have a better lifestyle than those of 1932 so they have no reason to create trouble.

Older workers start fighting back

Article Abstract:

The government is pursuing a voluntary approach to age discrimination legislation, including a non-statutory code of good practice for employers and age limit bans on Job Centre advertisements. The voluntary concept, which was announced at the 'Action on Age' launch by the Department for Education and Employment, is based on the grounds that over 25% of the work force will be aged over 50 by the year 2006 and that age discrimination would not continue indefinitely.

Fighting and surviving all over again

Article Abstract:

Patricia Rock suffered polio when she was two and survived with paralysed legs. She used callipers and crutches for 30 years. Tennis elbow induced chronic back pain. Poor medical advice nearly caused her to break her back, as it was not recognised that she had developed late effects of polio, with weakened muscles. Ms Rock attended a conference in St Louis, Missouri where her condition was confirmed. She improved after rest built up her muscles.
